Ive been an Electrician a Fitness Instructor an Office Worker a Delivery Driver and a Police Officer, I hope my heart sings a little louder and my next choice is my last… im getting close, I feel it. Thanks
Programming is NOT taught in school, most of what you learn in school is really not that valuable, the credential of a BA or MA is very valuable. Find out what the 15% of your job is that is most valuable to your manager and concentrate on that, get to know everyone you can. Even in IT your personal-political skills are (unfortunately) more important than your technical skills (not saying tech skills aren’t important, but w/o political skills you’ll get stuck). Certification is political.
@MessageInBlood1 I know that what you’re saying used to be true, it may be true in some areas, however I haven’t seen it in my area since 2006-2007). Certifications are very valuable, but having a four year degree (regardless of your actual skills) will open a lot of doors for you. By all means, get the two year degree first so you can work your way through the 4 year degree one. If you can’t go to a top 10 school, go to the least expensive (in time-effort and money) school you can go to to.
@commandersprocket really? I know for a fact that really good jobs require 4 year degree and like 5 years of experience but even entry level jobs require 4 year degree? I know someone who got out with only associates or only certification and they are getting decent jobs and get paid people that came out from college with a four year degree.
@MessageInBlood1 No, an associates degree won’t get you a job (look at job boards). What I’m seeing is that you must have a BA/BS or Masters and 5 years in N-Tier architectures to get a job right now (you won’t directly learn N-Tier/SaaS/SOA in school). Employers are looking for engineers that can code well in several languages, consume and create web services SOAP/Restfull, manage a database, understand networking (IPv4 vs IPv6, know L1-L7 mean and how they will effect your performance).
@soalike bro i have comptiaA+, MTA Network+, MTA operating system, MCTS and MCITP. but sadly i didn’t get much expediences from these qualifications, at the moment i am so baffled don’t know exactly what path shall i start my career from???
Hi, I’m interested in IT in the career world but I want to know from actual people who work there: What are the advantages and disadvantages of the work accomplished daily or however the work environment is.
How excelled does your keyboarding skills have to be to meet requirements?
What sources have you learned from or recommended to those entering this career? Books? Magazines? Web sites?
Thank you much. Have a nice day.
what about the age? i am 32 and self employed in the software industry for about 15 years… but i probably want to work for someone and unfortunately i dont have any computer science degree, and i don’t know if i have the energy to learn every day mathematics and some algorithms for 4 years. I mean, i like to code, but i am getting tired to “change”, to learn, to go with the industry… should i learn computer science and get the degree or should i became a gardener?

Hi I will be graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Management Information Technology next semester. I did well in Network Security, Communication Technology, Management Information Systems and Visual Basic. My weakness was in SQL, I didn’t do well in Database Administration (SQL). Based on the information I provided, what career path would you recommend I pursue in I.T.?
Thnx.
What advice do you have for someone who was in the field, little college experience, no degree/diploma but, some work experience in help desk? I am considering getting back into the field. I am looking into getting microsoft certified or going back to college and taking some courses. My biggest struggle though is programming. I am not very good at programming so things like software engineer or architect is out of the question. Any advice, please hit me up via msg or here.
So have u settled with what you want to do yet? Or what are you doing right now-in work i mean
